A Nord 5 needs two separate purchases to keep running, and buying only one of them is the mistake people make. The pod is an empty five-millilitre vessel. The coil goes into it and is sold on its own.
Order the pod by itself and nothing in it vapes. Order the coil by itself, and there is nowhere to put it. This page is about getting both right.
The pod and the coil
The pod is the Nord 5 pod, five millilitres, side-filled, and it is on Replacement Pods. The coil is an RPM 3, which is a distinct family from the RPM and RPM 2 that came before it, and it is on Replacement Coils.
SMOK runs four coil families here — Nord, RPM, RPM 2 and RPM 3 — and none of them sits in another family’s pod. RPM 3 is what this device takes, and the numbering is the whole of the difference. Reading the marking on the old coil is faster than working it out from the device name.
Two resistances are made: 0.15 and 0.23 ohms. Both are sub-ohm, which decides the liquid before you have chosen it.
Both coils are sub-ohm, so the bottle is settled
Three milligrams at 70/30 is the fill, with six as the practical ceiling. No configuration of this device suits a nicotine salt — at 0.15 ohms and real wattage, the delivery runs many times past what any salt is formulated around.
The right formats for it are Nasty Juice at 3mg, Ultimate Juice 120ml at either 3mg or 6mg, and any Doozy E-Liquids 100ml bottle once you have mixed the shots in.
A 5ml pod at eighty watts empties fast. That is worth planning around when you decide how much liquid to order at a time.
Power, screen and airflow
Five to eighty watts on two buttons, with a 0.69-inch OLED reporting wattage, battery, resistance and a puff count. Airflow is a sliding switch feeding dual inlets on the side.
The cell is 2000mAh and sealed, so batteries are not a page this kit needs. That shelf serves the mods here that run removable cells, and this is not one of them.
What actually ends a coil
Wattage and sweetener, in that order. A sub-ohm mesh coil at high power is doing more work than the same coil at low power, and a sweetened bottle leaves residue on it that a plain fruit or menthol does not.
Neither is a fault, and no maintenance changes the arithmetic. What changes is how many spares you keep, which on a two-part platform means keeping coils rather than pods; the pod outlasts several coils.
